This past weekend I went to my husbands Urbandale 10 year class reunion. They planned a night out for drinks Friday at Zimm's which was free and then the actual reunion on Sat night. BIG MISTAKE... Only about 30-40 people actually showed up for the actual reunion b/c it was $45.00 to get in per person (spouses had to pay too). And they had to pay for their own drinks. So everyone ended up going to the free night at Zimm's. The reunion planners are going to get stuck with the bill now since the turnout was so bad. They hired caterers, a DJ and rented a huge room at the Iowa Events Center downtown. They had a senior video playing so they ended up shutting off the music since everyone wanted to watch the video. So that was wasted $ for the DJ. I suggest not charging so much or find a cheap place to rent. People care more about seeing old friends then expensive meals... I think one big night would help the turnout alot more... Just my 2 cents! Laura Sawhill (Twilley)

My husband just had his 15 year reunion. Instead of meeting over two days they met during one. On a Saturday they had a family style picnic and had lunch catered in from Hy-Vee and reserved a shelter at a public park, I think that cost $5 per person but this way people don't need to worry about sitters and it gives everyone in the class a chance to meet each others families. Then that evening they had an adults only get together where they rented a band and had drinks and food at Sleepy Hallow. I can't remember what that cost but it was much more than the picnic, obviously. It was a really good time and keeping everything to one day simplified everything. Just an idea.
